Jehonathan Guzman

Actor who also works in Marketing and Sales

Jehonathan was in the locally made film, Give Me Liberty , which won an Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award

Jehonathan currently works in Marketing and Sales at a company called FIS. (But he's always joked and that he's charmer for a living, or that he's the "St. Peter" of the organization.)

What inspired you to become an actor?
I've wanted to become one since I was a kid, but in this philosophical way I've always viewed acting as a way to help me understand this meaning of life. What does life mean through that characters eyes, and where is the love in every action they make?

You recently were in the locally made film, Give Me Liberty, which won an Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award. Can you tell us a little bit about what it was like to work on that film
Yes it did! I was so happy and thrilled that night [that the film won the award].
[Working on the film] was a huge learning experience overall, working on set and building relationships with the the crew and the actors. I learned a lot of what is needed to make a scene. Kirill was such a passionate director and so was Alice. It was also fun to get to know Lolo, (evening if it was for a little while) she was such as happy and strong spirit.

During our shoot, we discovered that we both have Puerto Rican roots! What are your thoughts about the diversity of roles in filmmaking right now? Is there anything that you would like to see more of?
In my opinion I think its slowly and surely happening. But something in me feels like we (especially Puerto Ricans) aren't getting enough roles and representation in the film industry. I think that it is important that diversity grow and nourish in Filmmaking because it paints all of these experiences people have. When I think of artists like Lin Manuel Miranda, I think of how hard he had to work to be where he is at today, and what I appreciate from him is that he serves is passion back to his community like, what he did for Puerto Rico by Presenting Hamilton on the Island after Hurricane Maria.

Does being a Puerto Rican actor affect you in any way?
Both on and off screen. I have been on a set once where I often get asked if I was Israeli; Puerto Ricans don't necessarily look like Puerto Ricans to be honest. For me I was told that one of the affects I bring to the table is that I can play numerous characters with different back grounds, from: Latino, to Middle Eastern, even to being Indian, which I think is pretty amazing to have these kind of features under your belt. Not to mention we are such passionate people, that when you show that on screen, you're pouring a piece of your soul in that character. I think Latin Actors have that effect, we share our Corazon, our heart.

What would your dream role be?
It was already taken sadly, I wanted to be Aladdin lol. Still would be nice to play as him, or a hero that has gone through a lot, but still knows what is right, like Jon Snow, or Spiderman. I was told though I would make a good villain because of my evil laugh.

Who would play you in a movie?
Thats a tough one, I would say Oscar Isaac or maybe Jay Hernandez?

Are you currently working on any projects? Do you have any upcoming projects?
So far I am working on creating a separate Instagram page for a character I created called 'Rutherford Beckingston'. I'm in the process of creating an account for this no nonsense character who is reporting on random, uneventful stories. I've made videos on my on my personal story and have gotten a lot of feed back for making this character and some want to see more of him so it would be fun to share who he is.

Since everyone is binging Netflix right now, are there any movies or tv shows that you recommend?
Hahah, well to be honest I started rewatching After Dark on Netflix. I am a huge fan of Animal Documentaries, I could watch those for days!

What are a few of your favorite movies?
Gladiator, Christopher Nolans Batman Trilogies, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I also love Birdman!

What are you doing to pass the time during this Pandemic?
Doing lots of working out, meditation and trying to find my inner peace, I have this tendency to find new things to do when I feel like I'm getting bored one of them being paddle boarding on my long board! I'm also getting a new dog!
